Everything you ever wanted to know about GSM frequency bands:
Two frequency bands are used by GSM services in the US. Two different frequency bands are used by GSM services elsewhere in the world.
Ideally, you’d want a phone that can work on all four bands – commonly called a quad-band phone. But these are still rare and expensive.
If choosing a tri-band phone as a second best choice, be careful which three bands your phone has. Some bands are more useful than others, depending on where you travel.

This has been bugging me for YEARS! Thank goodness I’m not the only one with this pet-peave. 🙂 :
Email: ‘The word ’email’ or its variants such as ‘e-mail’ properly describes a system of communication electronically. It does not denote a message. So “I sent you an email” should more properly be “I sent you an email message.” One sees this misuse very frequently in business correspondence and informal discussions. Its use reveals lazy thinking on the part of its users.

I got this working on my XP Pro box and my Airpanel, works as stated. 🙂
… Windows XP does not allow concurrent sessions for its Remote Desktop feature. What this means is that if a user is logged on at the local console, a remote user has to kick him off (and ironically, this can be done even without his permission) before starting work on the box. This is irritating and removes much of the productivity that Remote Desktop brings to Windows. Read on to learn how to remove that limitation in Windows XP SP2

I’ve been looking for a great pair of COMFORTABLE headphones for my iPod for quite some time now, and after some searching and listening I decided to get a pair of Bose Triport Headphones off of eBay… I ended up paying about $110 (including shipping) for a used blue pair, which beats the $149+tax+shipping street price. I just got them today and so far I think I like them. 🙂
When I was flipping through the manual it said not to turn on any bass boost features because the headphones had undergone the finest of Bose engineering. They weren’t kidding, rap lovers and those who enjoy deep drums will have plenty of enjoyment with these headphones

I’ve always run Squid on my home linux router. But I recently went through an overhaul in my home office, and tried to silence everything and anything I could since all the whirring fans were so loud I couldn’t think. During that process I replaced my linux router with a Linksys WRT54GS and loaded it with a copy of Sveasoft Alchemy-V1.0 (which I highly recommend). Since the replacement, I’ve been running without Squid – and I’ve missed it. So a couple of weeks ago I got off my ass and got it to work. This is what I did:

Possessive cockerels use fake sex to keep their hens faithful. By merely mounting females – without bothering to waste precious sperm – cocks ensure their partners will not go looking for male competitors to fertilise them, a new study suggests. The finding may explain why males of many species – from insects to mammals – engage in seemingly meaningless sperm-free sex.

The Inquirer’s Charlie Demerjian reports Cingular customer service has admitted to a nationwide problem with their network that manifests itself by intermittently dropping incoming calls right to voicemail, and — worse — without notification of incoming voicemail, either. Apparently, they can fix the problem manually if you ring them…

Fascinating stuff… I have no idea if they’re doing this in the US, but its good to know:
If you are unfortunate enough to either lose or even worse have your phone stolen you should report it to your service provider (your network) immediately! Your service provider can then blacklist the handset so that it can no longer be used to make or receive any calls. The networks do this by adding your phones serial number onto a national blacklist database (Central Equipment Identity Register). Effectively the handset becomes absolutely useless and the thief is in possession of a pretty paper weight!
So How Does Blacklisting Work

Ok, I finally made the switch to WordPress. A few things I’ve learned:
- WP is pretty cool
- Most WP plugins are outdated
- Those WP plugins that aren’t outdated, are a pain in the ass to install
- There aren’t very many plugin’s worth installing
You might want to update your RSS feed URLs, the new ones are on the right-hand sidebar.
I’m thinking about moving my moblog here as well, but I’m waiting for Postie to be updated to support POP3-SSL.

Prius is comfortable, a festival of technology and unquestionably cleaner-burning than the VW can be today with only high-sulfur diesel fuel available. But the real-world mileage of pleasant-driving Jetta was better than that of Prius, and diesel fuel typically was 16% to 20% cheaper than unleaded gas.
Jetta lived up to its one-tank billing. Prius did not.
